Author Biography

Bruce Junvik

With two decades teaching elementary children in the regular classroom, and another decade as a tutor of students with special needs, children’s book author Bruce Junvik first knew he wanted to be a writer in middle school when he would write short stories, keeping them to himself.

A natural writer, the first drafts of stories seem effortless for Bruce, with ideas and words streaming easily, only to be followed by months of refining and rewriting. He was encouraged to write his new release, Would You Like to See Something Bigger?, by his wife, with whom he would take walks in the woods near their home, after spotting various animals and wildlife together. His background as a lifelong educator gave him insight into creating a children’s guessing picture book showcasing animals’ distinct characteristics.

Bruce believes a good book is one that teaches something about life and that stays with the reader long after the book is closed. He hopes that his youngest readers will see, either through his book’s animals or in humans, that we are all part of something grander and more mysterious than ourselves.

As a career educator of young children and a father of three sons, Bruce brings to his writing craft a history and knowledge of the children’s books that have had the most impact and best engagement for kids. He is both influenced by beloved children’s writers before him and inspired by classic stories such as Charlotte’s Web.

When he isn’t writing charming and informative stories for children, Bruce enjoys stimulating his five senses through listening to music, reading classic literature, viewing various mediums of artwork, eating an array of international and local cuisines, and experiencing the best of the outdoors through mountain biking with his sons, sailing, swimming, kayaking, and hiking with his wife on treks throughout North America. He’s been known to channel his own inner child by holding his own on a go-kart track or miniature golf course.

Bruce’s mantra is that you always have time to fulfill your dreams at any point in one’s life. He lives with his wife, his biggest champion, in both British Columbia, Canada, and North Carolina. Would You Like to See Something Bigger? is his debut children’s book.
